This summer, YouTube will introduce its Veo 3 AI video creation model to YouTube Shorts, according to YouTube CEO Neil Mohan’s speech at the Cannes Lions Film Festival.
Creators of short films can already take advantage of the previous generation Veo 2 model to create screensavers using Dream Screen, as well as individual clips. Mohan didn’t specify what exactly the Veo 3 will allow in Shorts, but he did mention the improved video quality of the Veo 3 and that it can include audio, so it’s likely that these updates will come to Shorts as well.
It’s also unclear whether Shorts creators will have to pay to use Veo 3. Currently, creating videos on Veo 3 requires a paid subscription to Google’s AI Pro or AI Ultra plans. Google did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Mohan also said that Shorts now averages more than 200 billion views per day.
