Yangtze Memory Technologies Corp (YMTC), a prominent Chinese memory manufacturer, has seen its Initial Public Offering (IPO) review status changed to “Inquired” by the Shanghai Stock Exchange’s STAR Market. This significant development comes just nine working days after its IPO application was officially accepted on August 21st.
A Major IPO on the Horizon
The company, also known as Changcun Holding, is aiming to raise a substantial 33 billion yuan through this IPO. The funds are earmarked for critical upgrades and research, with 20.8 billion yuan designated for the technological enhancement of YMTC’s mass production lines and 12.2 billion yuan allocated to research and development initiatives. This planned fundraising makes it the largest IPO project to date on the STAR Market.
Financial Performance and Market Position
YMTC has demonstrated a remarkable turnaround in its financial performance. After experiencing a net loss in 2024, the company anticipates a rapid increase in profitability. Projections indicate that operating revenues will climb from 18.74 billion yuan in 2024 to 45.20 billion yuan in 2025, and further to 63.18 billion yuan in 2026. The net profit attributable to the parent company is expected to shift from a loss of 19.18 billion yuan in 2024 to a profit of 6.77 billion yuan in 2025, and surge to 14.21 billion yuan in 2026. Notably, the net profit for the first quarter of 2026 alone is projected to exceed double the entire net profit for 2025. The gross profit margin for YMTC’s NAND flash memory products is exceptionally high, standing at 78.73%.
Market data further underscores YMTC’s growing influence. According to TrendForce, from January to March 2026, YMTC ranked third globally in terms of sales revenue and shipment volume among NAND Flash manufacturers, and first within China. Counterpoint Research data for the second quarter of 2026 corroborates this, placing YMTC’s global NAND bit shipment share at 14%, also ranking it third worldwide.
Technological Prowess and Strategic Alliances
Established in 2016 and headquartered in Wuhan, YMTC has rapidly emerged as a leading Integrated Device Manufacturer (IDM) in China’s memory sector. The company made a significant technological leap in 2022 by launching its Xtacking 3.0 technology, becoming one of the first globally to introduce 3D NAND flash products with over 200 layers. In 2025, YMTC solidified its position by becoming one of the few domestic integrated circuit companies to achieve patent cross-licensing agreements with leading international manufacturers.
Ownership Structure
YMTC’s ownership structure is characterized by the absence of a single controlling shareholder or actual controller. Prior to this IPO, Hubei Changsheng Development Co., Ltd. held a 26.54% stake, while Wuhan Xinfey Technology Investment Co., Ltd. owned 25.35%. The National Integrated Circuit Industry Investment Funds (Phase I and Phase II) collectively hold approximately 23% of the company’s shares.
The swift progression of YMTC’s IPO application, from acceptance to the first round of inquiries, signals strong momentum and keen interest from regulatory bodies and investors alike. This IPO is poised to be a landmark event for China’s domestic semiconductor industry, potentially providing significant capital to fuel further innovation and expansion in the highly competitive global memory market.
