Xiaomi has officially launched its much-anticipated 18 Pro series smartphones, boasting the latest Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 mobile platform. The devices feature a powerful Leica-powered quad-camera system, including a 200MP main sensor and a 200MP telephoto lens, alongside an AI-enhanced back display. Pricing for the Xiaomi 18 Pro series starts at 5999 Yuan.

New Photographic Features Unveiled

Adding to the impressive hardware, a recent leak from notable blogger @DSP-Charles reveals that the Xiaomi 18 Pro series will support a new video recording mode called “Open Gate,” also known as “full frame gate.” This advanced mode utilizes the entire image sensor area during recording, capturing the maximum resolution and providing significantly more raw image data for post-processing flexibility.

Furthermore, the series introduces a new “True Tone” (原色) photographic style. Leaked screenshots indicate that users will be able to choose between three distinct photographic styles: True Tone, Vivid, and Classic. This allows users to tailor the visual output of their photos and videos to their specific aesthetic preferences.

Leica Optics and Advanced Imaging

The Xiaomi 18 Pro series is equipped with a full-focal-length Leica optical triple-camera system. This includes a 200MP main camera with a large 1/1.28-inch sensor, offering exceptional dynamic range. Complementing this is a 200MP telephoto lens featuring a 1/1.56-inch sensor, which significantly enhances light intake for improved low-light performance. The camera system also supports macro photography, capturing details as close as 12cm.

A standout feature is the debut of the “Legendary Moment” (传奇一瞬) large model imaging technology. This innovative system aims to accurately restore the optical texture and aesthetic qualities of traditional cameras, bridging the gap between modern smartphone imaging and classic photographic styles.

Broader Ecosystem Launch

The release of the Xiaomi 18 Pro series coincides with a broader product launch event. This includes the return of the transparent edition, making a comeback after six years, as well as new tablet, wearable, and smartwatch offerings, indicating a comprehensive expansion of Xiaomi’s ecosystem.
