At its autumn new product launch event, Xiaomi announced a significant upgrade to its 18 Pro series smartphones, enhancing their integration with the Apple ecosystem. Lu Weibing, Xiaomi Group Partner, President, President of the Mobile Phone Division, and General Manager of the Xiaomi Brand, revealed that the new models will now support connectivity with Apple Watch.
Enhanced Apple Ecosystem Integration
This new feature allows Xiaomi 18 Pro users to receive calls and notifications directly from their Apple Watch on their Xiaomi phone. Furthermore, the integration enables seamless synchronization and viewing of sports and health data collected by the Apple Watch.
This development builds upon previous efforts by Xiaomi to bridge its devices with Apple’s ecosystem. Previously, Xiaomi had announced support for the Apple ecosystem through its HyperConnect technology. Users could install the “Xiaomi Interconnection Service” to achieve cross-device file and image transfer.
Evolution with HyperOS
The integration has seen further refinement with the rollout of HyperOS 3. The latest version of the “Xiaomi Interconnection Service” (version 2.1.0) introduced features like iPhone notification synchronization on Xiaomi phones and a “windowed app” mode for iPads within the Mi Share desktop environment.
Xiaomi phones running HyperOS 3 offer enhanced multitasking capabilities when connected to Mac devices. Users can open multiple resizable windows simultaneously and utilize a one-click full-screen option. For added convenience, unlocking a phone on the Mi Share desktop via a Mac can be done using Touch ID without needing to physically handle the phone.
HyperOS 3 also introduces the “Mi Share Desktop” for iPad, which supports Face ID unlocking and integrates smoothly with the iPad’s multitasking system, allowing users to manage their connected devices more efficiently.
The enhanced connectivity and cross-platform features underscore Xiaomi’s commitment to providing a more unified and convenient user experience, extending its reach into the established Apple ecosystem.
