WhatsApp introduces "Link Verification" feature

Amid the growing number of cybercrimes, WhatsApp has developed new security measures. WhatsApp is one of the most used messaging platforms. We share a lot of content through this platform. From voice messaging to personal data, he has access to everything. But scams have been initiated through this platform. In order to stop this from happening, the messaging platform will now allow you to get information about any link (received/shared) on Google. Here is a detailed description of how this security feature will work.

WhatsApp to introduce “link verification”

According to WABetaInfo, a recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android will allow users to get link information from Google. With the updated WhatsApp beta 2.24.22.19, you can easily verify the authenticity of any link you share individually or in group chats. So, how does this feature work? As per the screenshot, you need to long press on the link you want to know about. After that, you will have an option to search for link information. This option is called “Get link info on Google” and allows you to search for relevant information about the selected link/URL.

Many reports indicate that fraudsters/scammers are using WhatsApp to carry out fraudulent activities. This mainly concerns money laundering, identity theft, or secretly gaining access to a user’s device. But how do such frauds happen? Let’s look at an example. Let’s say you receive a link in your WhatsApp. Usually, such links contain an urgent message, such as a request to update your KYC data. When you see the urgency, you usually click on the link and fill in your personal data. This is the trap. As soon as you fill in the data, fraudsters get access to it. Subsequently, they use it to commit fraudulent activities.

How can I solve the problem now? Yes, with the updated WhatsApp feature, you can check the authenticity of the link. Ultimately, you will be able to find out if the link is safe and if it is malicious. So now you don’t have to open the link to get information about it. You can let Google do the verification for you.

Other updates

In other news, WhatsApp recently introduced a new personalized user experience. WhatsApp will have a feature that will allow you to create and share sticker sets. The new feature was found in development in the beta version of WhatsApp for Android 2.24.22.13.

But what does this feature mean for you? This feature will allow you to create sets of stickers and then share them in an organized manner in a folder. However, this feature is currently still in beta testing. You can get updates in the Google Play Beta program.
