For the fourth year in a row, Ukraine’s tech sector is represented at Web Summit 2024 in Lisbon, which will take place on November 11-14.

Resilience during the war

Despite Russia’s full-scale invasion, Ukraine’s tech sector has shown remarkable resilience and unity. With more than 300,000 highly skilled professionals and about 5,000 players, the industry is one of the key sectors in the country’s economy.

“The team of the Ministry of Digital Transformation has formulated a new mission – to build the most convenient digital state in the world for citizens and tech businesses. Ukraine is not only a country with services in a few clicks, but also a country where innovations and IT business are a significant part of the economy,” says Mykhailo Fedorov, Vice Prime Minister for Innovation, Education, Science and Technology of Ukraine.

In his opinion, the Government’s task is to create all conditions for technology development, attract investments, establish international partnerships and build the brand of a technological country in the world.

Ukrainian startup system

The Ukrainian delegation at Web Summit in Lisbon will be represented by 24 promising startups in many verticals, from cleantech and energy to AI and healthcare. Among them, for example, is Beholder, which develops a set of neural networks for mineral exploration. Bliss Brain creates personalized meditations with the help of artificial intelligence. In turn, Cardiomo demonstrates a solution for monitoring heart health. Other startups showcase equally interesting new products.

“The Ukrainian startup ecosystem, which includes more than 2,600 startups, is growing rapidly and confidently asserting itself in the international arena. 72% of IT companies create products that are used all over the world, emphasizing our global competitiveness,” says Natalia Kusherska, Acting Director of the Innovation Development Fund.

That is why, according to her, the Foundation, together with its partners, is actively working to expand opportunities for Ukrainian startups to present their innovations at leading technology exhibitions. This provides a powerful impetus for attracting investment, strategic partnerships, and entering international markets.

In 2023, Ukraine’s tech sector was ranked 46th in the top 100 countries according to the Global Startup Ecosystem Index by Startupblink. To ensure its further growth, much attention is paid to facilitating access to funding and resources for founders.

Supporting startups

“We remain committed to supporting Ukrainian startups that make a huge contribution to the country’s economic growth despite the military challenges. Through strategic partnerships with key ecosystem players, we are opening up significant opportunities for the development of Ukrainian innovations and their scaling into successful companies,” says Anton Vashchuk, Director of the Innovation, Education and Entrepreneurship Program at the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund.

For the Ukrainian tech sector, Web Summit remains one of the main international events. It is one of the most powerful platforms that gives startups access to partnerships and investments.

“Nowadays, it is more important than ever to make Ukraine known on the international stage. We need to showcase our achievements and developments, consolidate our efforts and maintain contact with the world. This is the only way to build stable, strong cooperation and economic independence,” says Olena Bakalo, co-organizer of the Ukrainian delegation.

She is proud to organize the participation of the Ukrainian delegation at Web Summit for the fourth time.

The world should know Ukraine, the world should know the best!

The participation of the Ukrainian delegation was made possible through joint efforts: co-organizers – the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Startup Fund and the Ukraine-Moldova American Enterprise Fund, the main partnerEpicenter Group of Companies, and partners – Nova Digital, Nova Post, the European consortium Seeds of Bravery, StrategEast, Digital Ukraine and the Embassy of Ukraine in Portugal.
