Vodafone has started modernizing the telecom infrastructure of the fixed-line operator Frinet, which has been part of Vodafone Group since August 2023. The company is in the active phase of GPON network construction in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Dnipro. More than 500 buildings – about 35,000 households – in these cities have already been connected to the energy-efficient network.
What does GPON offer?
The new technology will provide customers with:
- Reliability during blackouts: the Internet will be available for up to 72 hours, even in the event of long-term power outages.
- Incredible speed: GPON data transmission reaches 1 Gbps (≈1000 Mbps), which is 10 times faster than the speed of the regular Internet. This speed allows you to download an HD movie or a modern game in just a few minutes.
- Multiple device connectivity: high bandwidth guarantees stable operation for numerous devices simultaneously.
- Affordability: the service costs from 125 UAH/month, which allows you to use high-quality Internet and save money.
Investing in GPON
“The combination of many years of experience in the fixed-line internet sector and Vodafone’s ability to invest in advanced PON solutions contribute to the development of reliable and affordable communications in Ukraine,” says Sergey Skrypnikov, CEO of Frinet.
According to him, the operator has already managed to provide energy-efficient Internet access to more than 1.2 million households. It is necessary to provide each customer with a stable Internet that will work reliably even in difficult energy conditions. Subscribers can check the availability of GPON coverage by leaving a request on the telecom operator’s website.
The provider continues to actively build and commission new GPON zones and plans to upgrade the network in more than 2,200 high-rise buildings in Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk and Dnipro by the end of 2025.
As a reminder, in 2024 Vodafone upgraded the GPON network of its subsidiary Vega in 155 buildings in Kyiv, Lviv and Odesa and built a new GPON network in more than 4,000 buildings in the cities where it operates.
