vivo is gearing up to launch its highly anticipated X500 series, with product manager Han Boxiao of vivo Communication Technology Co., Ltd. officially announcing a September debut. The new lineup will feature three models: the X500, X500 Pro, and X500 Pro Max, all promising significant upgrades.

A New Era for Mobile Video

The X series has long been positioned as a “professional imaging flagship,” consistently leading in both photography and video capabilities, as well as performance. With the upcoming X500 series, vivo aims to elevate mobile video to an entirely new level, targeting “cinematic-grade video.” The company’s ambition is for the X500 series to be the “first choice for photography, and the only choice for video.” The new “Thanos 500” is set to deliver five major “Thanos-level” upgrades across video, photography, performance, screen, and OS.

Groundbreaking Camera Technology

The first major upgrade for the X500 series lies in its video capabilities. The Pro models will globally debut a custom-designed “Zeiss Super-Dynamic Main Camera,” co-developed by vivo’s Blue Image Lab and Sony. This camera boasts an industry-leading dynamic range of 17EV, bringing professional cinema camera dynamic range to a smartphone. Historically, high dynamic range has been primarily confined to still photography. However, the Blue Image Lab’s “Blue Image Light Guard 900” sensor, featured in the X500 Pro, extends this “clear in backlight” capability to video recording, ensuring each frame captures an exceptional 17EV dynamic range.

Beyond its impressive dynamic range, the Blue Image Light Guard 900 sensor also introduces groundbreaking video features. It will be the first to support 4K 240fps slow-motion recording and 4K 120fps HDR direct output. vivo claims that the X500 Pro series will offer features previously only found on gimbal cameras, and even surpass them.

Leaked Details Confirm Advanced Specs

Earlier reports from leaker @Digital Chat Station provided further insights into the X500 series’ hardware. The main camera is confirmed to be the jointly defined “Blue Image Light Guard 900″ by vivo and Sony, a 50MP 1/1.28” cinematic-grade sensor with new ultra-high dynamic range technology, achieving the aforementioned 17EV. Additionally, it will feature 3° OIS gimbal-level stabilization and CIPA 7.0 professional stabilization. The device is also expected to include a 200MP “Thanos Telephoto” lens, similar to the X300 Ultra’s top-tier configuration, utilizing a custom 200MP HP0 large-format periscope lens.

With these advancements, the vivo X500 series is poised to set new benchmarks in smartphone imaging, particularly for videographers seeking professional-grade tools in their pocket.
