Tweetbot developers create an app for Bluesky

Tapbots, the maker of the popular Tweetbot and Ivory apps for Twitter and Mastodon, is working on an iOS and Mac app for Bluesky called Phoenix, MacStories reports. The company plans to release the app this summer and says it will open a “limited public alpha as soon as it can.”

This isn’t a departure from Mastodon; after Phoenix is released, Tapbots plans to develop both Ivory and Phoenix simultaneously. “Mastodon is our home on the social network, and we will continue to invest our time in it,” Tapbots says in response to a question on the Phoenix landing page. “After Bluesky’s incredible growth last year, our customer base has been split between the two services, and in order to continue to thrive as a company, we need to support both. Unfortunately, we can’t survive on Mastodon alone.”

The company adds that “Mastodon is our home base, and we believe in ActivityPub as the future of the social network. We just hope it can continue to grow.”

Tapbots will offer a way to cross-post between Mastodon and Bluesky, but it says that “while an app that supports multiple social media protocols can have some conveniences, we believe the experience is much better if we keep them separate.”

While you wait for the app to launch, you can follow Phoenix’s account on Bluesky right now.
