Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) Chairman and CEO C.C. Wei has declared that the company’s profitability has “no upper limit” as demand for artificial intelligence (AI) continues to surge, creating a significant supply-demand gap.
AI Demand Surges, Driving Revenue Growth
Speaking at a briefing on October 15th, Wei highlighted the escalating demand for AI applications, which are transitioning from basic chatbots to more sophisticated AI assistants and intelligent agents. He noted that the widespread adoption of open-source AI models is also playing a crucial role by enhancing efficiency and lowering usage barriers, thereby stimulating the demand for advanced chips.
This robust demand isn’t limited to AI accelerators alone. Wei also pointed out a continuous increase in the need for AI-powered central processing units (CPUs) and networking chips, presenting substantial business opportunities for both TSMC and its clients.
Record Revenues and Strong Outlook
Wei revealed that TSMC’s U.S. dollar revenue reached a new record high in the current quarter and is projected to grow approximately 44% year-over-year for the full year. This impressive growth underscores the company’s dominant position in the semiconductor manufacturing industry, particularly in producing the advanced logic and high-performance chips essential for AI development.
Despite the strong performance, Wei cautioned that achieving such growth is not an overnight process. He reiterated TSMC’s core philosophy and strategy: to collaborate closely with customers, enabling their success as the primary driver for the company’s own value realization.
TSMC’s Expansion Efforts
TSMC is actively investing in expanding its production capacity to meet the burgeoning market demand. The company is fully committed to ramping up production, acknowledging the powerful and sustained growth in market needs.
Financial Performance Highlights
Previous reports indicate TSMC’s strong financial footing. For the third quarter of 2026, the company reported a net profit of NT$763.06 billion (approximately RMB 157.725 billion), marking a significant year-over-year increase of 68.7%. Furthermore, the company achieved impressive profitability margins, with a gross profit margin of 66.4%, an operating profit margin of 58.7%, and a net profit margin of 51.1% in the third quarter.
These figures reflect TSMC’s operational efficiency and its ability to command premium pricing for its cutting-edge manufacturing services, especially for the sophisticated nodes required by AI and high-performance computing applications.
The sustained demand for AI, coupled with TSMC’s manufacturing prowess and strategic customer partnerships, positions the company for continued growth and market leadership in the foreseeable future. The “unlimited” profitability mentioned by Wei reflects the critical role TSMC plays in the global technology ecosystem, powering the AI revolution.
