Tianyi Cloud Disk, a service under China Telecom, has announced significant changes to its data migration policy set to take effect on September 27th. In a move aimed at enhancing resource utilization and safeguarding user data, the platform will modify how data is transferred between accounts, particularly when migrating from an old phone number to a new one.

Key Changes to Data Migration

Starting September 27th, users initiating a data migration to a new phone number will find that the complimentary storage space previously associated with their old number will be reclaimed. This update impacts how users can manage their cloud storage and member benefits when switching to a new account.

The platform has outlined specific conditions that must be met for a successful migration. These include:

  • The new phone number must not have been previously registered with Tianyi Cloud Disk.
  • The total storage space of the new number must be equal to or greater than that of the original number.
  • A successful data migration must not have occurred within the last 90 days for the account.
  • Neither the original nor the new phone number should be in an abnormal state, such as account suspension or cancellation.

Impact on User Data and Benefits

Following a successful data migration, the existing data on the new phone number’s Tianyi Cloud Disk account will be deleted. The user’s data, storage space, and certain membership benefits from the original number will then be transferred to the new number. However, it is crucial to note that the promotional storage space from the original number will be forfeited, and any previously created file sharing links will become invalid.

Membership benefits are also subject to changes based on their origin:

  • Official Channel Membership Benefits (e.g., from the Tianyi Cloud Disk client or official website) will be deleted from the new number and transferred from the original number.
  • China Telecom Channel Membership Benefits (e.g., from China Telecom’s retail stores or online portal) will be retained on the new number, while those on the original number will also remain with the original number. This distinction ensures that benefits acquired through specific China Telecom channels are preserved on the new account.

Furthermore, enterprise cloud data on the new number will be deleted post-migration, with the new account inheriting all enterprise cloud data and information from the original number. Importantly, any existing automatic membership renewal agreements will remain unaffected by the migration process.

Migration Frequency and User Advisory

To prevent potential misuse and ensure system stability, Tianyi Cloud Disk is limiting data migrations to once every 90 days. The 90-day period begins from the successful submission date of the previous migration application, with the next application only possible on the 91st day. Users are strongly advised to exercise caution and consider this limitation carefully before proceeding.

Tianyi Cloud Disk has expressed gratitude for user support and understanding, emphasizing their commitment to providing reliable personal cloud storage services while aligning with national green development initiatives. The platform aims to optimize resource allocation and enhance the overall user experience through these policy adjustments.
