This time, Microsoft plans to launch Recall for real

Microsoft is beginning to gradually roll out a preview of the Recall feature, which takes screenshots of what you do on your computer with Copilot Plus so you can find them again, to Windows insiders, according to a blog post published Thursday.

This new rollout may indicate that Microsoft is finally getting closer to launching Recall on a larger scale. Microsoft originally planned to launch Recall with the Copilot Plus PC last June, but due to security concerns, the feature was delayed. The company then planned to launch it in October, but that deadline was also delayed so that the company could ensure a “safe and secure experience.”

In November, the company released a preview version of Recall for Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel for Qualcomm Copilot Plus PCs, and shortly after that made it available for Intel and AMD-based Copilot Plus PCs. And after a few weeks of testing, my colleague Tom Warren said that Recall is “creepy, smart, and compelling.”

In a blog post published on Thursday, Microsoft explains that you have to opt-in to save snapshots with Recall, and you can stop saving them “at any time.”
