Will we get a new look for Xbox? Apparently, Microsoft is making big changes in who will develop the next Xbox console, and this is causing quite a stir in the gaming community. Instead of the team that brought us the Xbox Series X, it looks like Microsoft’s Surface division will take over. What a coincidence that we are getting this news at a time when Xbox is trying to catch up with Sony’s PS5, which is selling by a wide margin. All thanks to exclusives and some other factors, to be honest.
Microsoft’s Surface Division will design the next Xbox
The console is not selling as well as Microsoft had hoped, and they expect sales to fall even further in 2024. Although Microsoft hasn’t shared sales figures for some time, the company revealed that the Xbox X and S series sold a total of 21 million units, which is about half of what the PS5 sold.
Nick Baker, an industry insider, shared on The XboxEra Podcast that there may be a change in the design team. This could mean that we have to wait longer for the next Xbox console, especially if they start designing from scratch.
But why hand the project over to the Surface team? Perhaps because there are rumors of a new Xbox portable device. The Surface team is known for making high-quality portable devices, so if Microsoft is planning a portable Xbox, it makes sense to have them work on it.
However, information about this rumored portable Xbox is mixed. Some say it will be cheaper and less powerful than the next-generation Xbox, while others say it will be just as powerful but more expensive. It’s hard to know what to believe, but Microsoft has said that they intend to create new Xbox hardware. The big change could mean exciting things for Xbox fans, especially if it leads to new, modern devices like a portable version. We’ll have to wait and see what Microsoft has up its sleeve.
