In early January of this year, Samsung surprised the consumer tech industry by unveiling its first-ever smart ring. Since then, many details about the Samsung Galaxy Ring have emerged – both confirmed and leaked and rumored. The South Korean brand’s wearable device is set to shake up the smart ring segment. Now the wait is officially over as the Galaxy Ring officially debuted today at the Unpacked event alongside the Z Fold 6, Z Flip 6, and Watch 7 series.
Samsung Galaxy Ring specifications and features
Samsung Galaxy Ring boasts a grade 5 titanium coating. It has a concave shape with side edges that taper toward the middle. The ring is certified to the IP68 standard for protection against dust and water. It is also waterproof to a depth of 100 meters, making it suitable for swimming. The device is lightweight: the smallest version measuring 7.0 x 2.6 mm weighs only 2.3 grams. It is available in nine sizes from 5 to 13. The South Korean brand provides a free sizing kit with every order before confirming the final choice.
When it comes to health and fitness, the Samsung Galaxy Ring is equipped with a PPG optical heart rate sensor that provides vital data such as real-time heart rate abnormalities, as well as additional information such as beats per minute and respiratory rate. Also on board is a skin temperature sensor and menstrual cycle tracking for accurate measurement results.
The smart ring is capable of tracking sleep patterns with features such as snoring analysis, sleep movements, sleep latency, and more. The device supports various types of physical activity, as well as automatic workout detection for some modes. It notifies users when they have been inactive for a long time. Another interesting feature of the Galaxy Ring is the AI-powered Energy Score, which measures your physical and mental state based on various sleep parameters.
Samsung Galaxy Ring also has a gesture function. You can control the shutter of your smartphone camera or turn off the alarm with a double tap. It’s similar to a double tap on the Apple Watch. The smart ring is compatible with the Samsung Find app and has built-in LED indicators that flash when it is lost. The device works for up to 7 days without recharging. It comes in a transparent charging case that also has LED indicators to show status.
The Samsung Galaxy Ring is priced at $399 USD and is available for pre-order today. It will go on sale on July 24 and will be available in Titanium Black, Titanium Gold, and Titanium Silver colors.
