CEO Elon Musk came up with the idea of a 1950s-style “Tesla Diner” and a Supercharger hub with roller skating employees back in 2018. More recently, Musk described it as “a mix of Grease and The Jetsons with supercharging,” according to The New York Times.
Last week, The Real Deal reported that Tesla is nearing completion of the eatery located on Santa Monica Boulevard. The facility has two floors, rooftop seating, a bar, two drive-in theaters, and 30 Supercharger booths.
Tesla received a permit to open a diner seven years ago. At the time, California was the de facto home of Tesla and the champion of electric vehicles, but since then, the company has moved its headquarters to Texas, Musk has become involved in far-right politics due to his deep involvement in the Trump administration, and revenues have been falling, as seen in today’s earnings report.
