Qualcomm is working on two new chips, the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus, to offer Windows users a reason not to switch to MacBooks with Apple Silicon.
Previously, it was rumored that the Surface Laptop 6 would use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite chip. The latest revelation is that a mysterious device codenamed “OEMBR OEMBR” (which is allegedly the Surface Laptop 6) has appeared on the GeekBench listing, running on a Snapdragon X Elite X1E80100.
For those who don’t know, the X Elite chip has three different versions – X1E-84-100, X1E-80-100, and X1E-78-100. They are basically similar with slight differences in CPU and GPU frequencies.
A total of four Snapdragon X Elite X1E80100 benchmark results were found on the alleged Surface Laptop 6. The single-core and multi-core results are as follows
As you can see from the images, the device scored around 2700 and 14000 points in the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively. The listing says that the power plan was set to “Balanced”. So, with proper cooling, it can be even higher. However, we don’t know what settings were set for the tests, where factors such as cooling or just the ambient temperature can affect the result. Therefore, it is better not to place high expectations on the performance mode.
Based on the numbers we see representing the Surface Laptop 6, it may be capable of Apple’s MacBook Pro with the M3 Pro chip.
The listing lists the processor as “snapdragon (1m) 8cx gen 3”, which is reportedly a measure against information leakage. Microsoft has reportedly done this before. Windows Latest claims that this is a Snapdragon X Elite chip. It was previously known that the device’s model number was associated with the Surface Laptop 6. The Snapdragon X Elite is equipped with 12 Qualcomm Oryon processor cores and 16 GB of RAM.
Earlier, Microsoft released a business version of Surface Laptop 6 and Surface Pro 10 with Intel Core Ultra 5 and Core Ultra 7 chips.
