Apple acknowledged reliability issues with the iPhone’s built-in alarm clock feature last April following a report by the NBC morning show Today and said it was working to resolve them, but some people are still having problems. Android Authority draws attention to this Reddit post by bryanlolwut in the r/iPhone subreddit from Wednesday showing an iPhone with an alarm set for 10:30 a.m., but instead the alarm goes off at 12:42 a.m., the time displayed on the Apple Watch.
Late Thursday night, many Reddit users were still commenting on the topic, saying they were having similar problems.
“My morning alarm was showing that it was going off, but it didn’t make any sound or respond to touch for 40 minutes,” writes Slawek_Zupa. Another post says that the alarm went off at 17:00, although it was supposed to go off at 7:00.
In today’s posts in the thread, there are people who are still using iOS 17, as well as those who have upgraded to iOS 18 using Apple Intelligence.
Some say they tried turning off Apple’s Attention Awareness feature, which can reduce the volume of the alarm when it goes off if the iPhone recognizes your face. However, for many, this hasn’t solved the problem and you lose features like seeing full notifications on the lock screen.
We asked Apple if they are working on a fix for this issue, but have not heard back yet. Personally, I’ve also noticed that my iPhone sometimes doesn’t make any sounds or vibrate in the morning, but a sluggish notification pops up as if it does. Luckily, I have a Google Pixel 8 Pro as a backup, which usually helps me wake up, and I’ve tried the Nintendo Alarmo alarm clock as well, but my wife is content with Zelda yelling at Link to wake up.
