Samsung is reportedly planning a price increase for its entire Galaxy S26 series in South Korea, with the hike expected to take effect next month. This move comes amidst a widespread surge in memory component costs, which has impacted various consumer electronics. If implemented, the price adjustments will apply to the Galaxy S26, Galaxy S26+, and Galaxy S26 Ultra models.

Details of the Proposed Price Increase

According to reports from Korean financial media outlet Hans Economy, Samsung intends to implement the price increase starting October 1, 2026. The notification sent to local mobile carriers indicates a uniform increase of 149,600 South Korean Won (approximately 745.8 RMB) across all models in the Galaxy S26 lineup.

The adjusted pricing, should the increase go through, would look as follows:

  • Galaxy S26: Increased from 1,254,000 KRW to 1,403,600 KRW (approximately 6,997 RMB).
  • Galaxy S26+: Increased from 1,452,000 KRW to 1,601,600 KRW (approximately 7,984 RMB).
  • Galaxy S26 Ultra: Increased from 1,797,400 KRW to 1,947,000 KRW (approximately 9,706 RMB).

Concerns Over Market Impact

Distributors and retailers have expressed concerns that raising prices during the current economic downturn could further dampen smartphone sales. They anticipate that consumers might postpone their upgrade plans, opting to continue using their existing devices for a longer period. This cautious consumer behavior is also expected to positively influence the second-hand mobile phone market, potentially leading to stronger demand and higher prices for used devices.

The global rise in memory chip prices has been a significant factor affecting production costs for many tech giants. While Samsung has not officially confirmed these price adjustments, the reported move signals potential challenges for smartphone manufacturers in balancing component costs with consumer affordability.
