Jamie Siminoff, who founded Ring in his garage, returned to Amazon after stepping down as the company’s CEO in 2023. Siminoff joined Amazon when the e-commerce website acquired Ring in 2018, but he left in 2023 and founded another startup, which he sold to lock maker Latch Inc. When he left Amazon two years ago, he said inventing was his true passion. Now he is a vice president responsible not only for Ring, but also for the Blink smart home camera, a garage delivery system called Key, and Amazon’s long-range low-frequency public network Sidewalk.
Siminoff will replace Elizabeth Hamren, who took over the position two years ago. Previously, Hamren was the chief operating officer of Discord, and also held senior positions at Microsoft and Meta. According to Bloomberg, she is still looking for new opportunities both inside and outside the company.
In a welcome post on Amazon’s website, Siminoff spoke briefly and broadly about his plans for the divisions he leads. He plans to focus on security, on making people feel like their “homes are safe, even if they’re thousands of miles away.” Siminoff also wants to make sure that Amazon’s home security experience “works seamlessly across different types of devices.” He also spoke about how he intends to explore the use of artificial intelligence in Amazon products and services in the future. “The AI transformation that’s happening right now is a once-in-a-generation opportunity, and I think we’re very well positioned with useful and practical AI features like smart video search,” he said. “This is just the beginning – we’re just scratching the surface of what we can do with AI, and I look forward to delving even deeper into this topic with the team.”
