Samsung‘s upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a torn lid in a new set of renders. The images are courtesy of OnLeaks and Android Headlines and show the left and right sides of the foldable smartphone.
No surprise, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 follows Samsung’s established design language. This time, the focus is on thinness, and it shows.
When closed, Fold 6 is 12.1 mm thick. However, in the new images, Fold 7 looks noticeably thinner. It’s hard to determine exact numbers just from the images, but previous reports indicate a thickness of 4 mm when unfolded and about 8.2 mm when folded.
Galaxy Z Fold 7 has a new blue variant
Despite the fact that the body is generally thin, the camera module protrudes prominently in the Fold 7. It is expected to have the same 200-megapixel main sensor as the Galaxy Z Fold 6 Special Edition. For comparison, its predecessor has a 50-megapixel sensor.
The main lens will be joined by an ultra-wide-angle 12-megapixel lens, a 10-megapixel 3x telephoto lens, and a 4-megapixel selfie camera below the display inside. The external selfie camera will reportedly remain at 10 megapixels.
In terms of colors, Samsung seems to be ready to move away from its usual palette of shades of gray. Along with the standard black model, there’s a new “Blue Shadow” variant, a metallic, rich color that’s more eye-catching than anything Samsung has offered in this category recently. Other colors are reportedly on the way, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Fold 7 at its Galaxy Unpacked event in New York on July 9, along with the Galaxy Z Flip 7 and the next line of Galaxy Watches.
Vivo and Honor also announced the launch of their foldable smartphones in late June and early July. So it will be interesting to see if Samsung will be able to compete with the Chinese offerings and vice versa.
