Last year, in July, Nubia introduced the Red Magic 8S Pro smartphone, which became the world’s first phone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version chipset. Today, the brand confirmed that the upcoming Red Magic 9S Pro, which is scheduled to launch on July 3, will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version chip.
Remember that Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Leading Version is an overclocked version of Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which became the basis for other flagship Android phones in 2022. The only other phones that feature the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 are the Galaxy S23, S23+, and S23 Ultra. However, Samsung advertised the chip as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 for Galaxy.
The Galaxy S24 series, which debuted earlier this year, is powered by the overclocked Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy, which runs at 3.39GHz (3.4GHz). On the other hand, other flagship phones like the OnePlus 12, iQOO 12, Find X8 Ultra, etc. have the regular Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 that runs at 3.3 GHz. The upcoming Red Magic 9S Pro will be the only phone with an overclocked SD8G3 processor. In the above poster, the chip is labeled as Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 Leading Version.
In addition to the increased processor speed, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will also offer increased GPU performance at 1 GHz. The phone will also feature LPDDR5x RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
Other specifications of the Red Magic 9S Pro have not yet been disclosed. However, it seems that the rest of the device’s specifications will mirror those of the Red Magic 9 Pro, which was announced in November 2023. In addition to the 9S Pro, the brand is also announcing the Red Magic Gaming Laptop on July 3 in China.
