After several months of testing, Plex has begun rolling out its updated mobile app to Android and iOS devices, and it will be available to everyone within the next week. The new app has an updated navigation system that should make it easier to access different parts of the app and find content to watch, as well as a special tab for centralized media libraries.
A Watchlist button has appeared in the upper right corner of the screen, and there are more illustrations on the pages with detailed information about TV shows and movies, as well as about the actors and crew. In a post on the Plex forum, the company describes the many improvements it has made to the app since the preview, including faster loading and scrolling times, the addition of a sleep timer, and support for picture-in-picture.
Plex plans to introduce the ability to download an entire season at once, the ability to cast to more devices, improvements to the interface for ratings and reviews, and more. It is also working on updating its TV app, which it began testing earlier this year.
The new app isn’t the only big change Plex made this month. The company announced that starting April 29, it is raising the price of Plex Pass to $6.99 per month, and will also start requiring a subscription to watch streaming content when you’re out and about.
