Norway-based browser developer Opera announced today that it is making its artificial intelligence assistant Aria available to users of Opera Mini on Android. This move will help users with low-performance devices and limited data access the best AI features.
Aria AI can help users get the latest news and information on various topics, learn more about different subjects, and generate images. Opera uses a combination of OpenAI and Google models to provide relevant answers.
“AI is rapidly becoming an integral part of the everyday internet experience – bringing Aria to Opera Mini is a natural addition to our most downloaded browser. With the addition of our built-in AI, Aria, we’re excited to explore how AI can further expand the set of features our users rely on every day,” said Jørgen Arnesen, Vice President of Mobile at Opera.
Opera Mini, which appeared in 2005, helps users save data while browsing the web. The company claims that even with the launch of the new AI assistant, it will help save data without increasing the size of the program.
For years, the company has partnered with local telecommunications companies in Africa to offer free data to Opera Mini users. Last year, the company was forced to shut down its free data program in Kenya after the authorities issued a directive to limit ads on the bookmarking interface in browsers.
The company reported that Opera Mini has more than a billion downloads on Android and more than 100 million users worldwide. According to analytics company Appfigures, Opera Mini has been downloaded 7.1 million times worldwide this year.
In addition to launching an AI assistant on all of its pages, Opera is experimenting with AI features such as tab management with natural language prompts and an operator that helps you complete tasks autonomously.
