OpenAI is rolling back its latest GPT-4o update after CEO Sam Altman said the company will be making fixes to address the “sycophantic and annoying” nature of the chatbot that appeared in recent updates.
The rollback, which began Monday night, is “now 100%” rolled back for free ChatGPT users and will be rolled back for paid users “hopefully today,” Altman said in a post on X. “We are working on additional fixes for personality modeling and will share more information in the coming days.”
OpenAI has updated the GPT-4o with improved “intelligence and personality,” Altman announced on Friday. But less than ten minutes after that announcement, user X said that “he’s been feeling very submissive lately,” to which Altman responded: “Yeah, he’s frosting too much” and “I’ll fix it.” Then, on Sunday, Altman announced that OpenAI is working on some fixes “as soon as possible” to address identity issues from the “last couple” GPT-4o updates.
