Today in China, the first foldable Nubia smartphone called Nubia Flip by ZTE was presented. This smartphone was first presented at the MWC 2024 exhibition and has already won the iF Design Awarf award. What sets this device apart from other flip smartphones is its price. Instead of targeting the premium segment, ZTE debuted the Nubia Flip in the mid-range price segment, making it accessible to more customers.
Technical characteristics of the Nubia Flip:
The Nubia Flip has a traditional clamshell design with a thickness of 7.0 mm when unfolded and weighs 209 grams. It has a hinge made of high-strength space-grade steel that can withstand more than 200,000 openings and closings.
On the back, it has a circular display outlined by a ring that serves as an island for the camera. The round display is just 1.43 inches diagonally and houses a 466×466 pixel AMOLED panel, which provides easy access to notifications and some of the basic functions of the smartphone. On the front, it features a tall 6.9-inch FHD+ (2790×1188 pixels) AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a perforation in the upper center, which houses the front camera. The display has PWM brightness control with a frequency of 2160 Hz and full coverage of the DCI-P3 color gamut.
The phone uses Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 SoC with Adreno 644 GPU. This processor is also found in the Moto Razr 40, another mid-range clamshell smartphone. The phone launched in China in three RAM and storage configurations: 8GB + 256GB, 12GB + 256GB, and 12GB + 512GB. It is powered by a 4310 mAh battery with 33W fast charging support, which the brand claims can fill the battery from 0 to 100% in about 73 minutes. The phone also has access to NFC technology.
Moving on to the optics, the main camera on board is a 50-megapixel high-definition sensor, accompanied by a 2-megapixel depth sensor for portrait shots. A 16MP front-facing camera is located in the punch, but users can use the main camera for selfies and video calls.
The camera supports AI computing photography and is equipped with a comprehensively optimized Neovion Taishan AI image processing system that can instantly complete fast shots through AI motion detection, AI neural network noise reduction, and image fusion computation. It also has a special night mode for capturing the vast night sky.
Price and availability
The pre-sale of the Nubia Flip has started, and the official launch is scheduled for April 16 at 10 am. The following pricing options are available for the device: 8GB RAM with 256GB storage priced at 2999 yuan (~$415), 12GB RAM with 256GB storage priced at 3299 yuan (~$456), and 12GB RAM with 512GB storage priced at 3699 yuan ($511). It will be available in three color variants: Caramel, Milk Tea and Taro.
