Nintendo is raising prices for its original “family of systems and products” Switch, the company announced on Friday. In addition to the first-generation Nintendo Switch, the price change will also affect the Switch OLED, Switch Lite, and “select” accessories.
Nintendo did not confirm the new prices, but as Wario64 notes, Target’s website briefly showed a $40 price increase for the original Switch console, setting it at $339.99. The site also indicated that the Switch OLED went up by $50 to $399.99, and the Switch Lite went up by $229.99, or $30. Target is currently displaying the original prices for the first generation of the Switch family.
The previously announced price increase for Switch 1 systems in Canada went into effect today, bringing the original Switch and Switch Lite prices up by $20 CAD to $419.99 and $279.99, respectively. The price of the Switch 1 OLED has increased by $40 to $489.99.
The report says that Nintendo is also raising the prices of some Switch 2 accessories, certain amiibo and Alarmo. The prices of Switch 2 consoles, as well as Switch and Switch 2 games (both physical and digital), remain unchanged.
Nintendo says it is doing this “based on market conditions.”
The move comes just after President Donald Trump signed an executive order imposing tariffs on more countries. In 2019, Nintendo moved most of its production from China to Vietnam to avoid the tariffs, as noted by The New York Times. But now, a new round of Trump’s tariffs will extend to Vietnam, and goods imported from this country will be subject to a 20 percent duty.
