Today, we take the absolute dominance of our species, Homo sapiens, as a biological inevitability. Yet merely 60,000 years ago, Earth was a multi-species planet. Sturdy Neanderthals hunted in Eurasian forests, mysterious Denisovans inhabited Asia, and short-statured “Hobbits” (Homo floresiensis) lived in Indonesia. They all possessed stone tools, mastered fire, and maintained distinct cultures.
Moreover, Neanderthals surpassed our ancestors in physical strength, endured the harsh climate of glacial Europe far better, and boasted larger cranial capacities. Yet, in the evolutionary race, it was sapiens who survived, while all other hominin species dissolved into history—leaving modern humans with only small fragments of their DNA.
The Cognitive Leap: Network Efficiency Over Physical Mass
Why did Homo sapiens prevail? The answer lies in the Cognitive Revolution—the ability of our brain to engage in flexible, symbolic thinking. While archaic species thought strictly in categories of direct perception, sapiens learned to operate with abstract concepts that do not exist in the physical world: shared myths, institutional rules, and envisioned futures.
In modern quantum cognitivism, this phenomenon is described as the brain’s ability to hold a “superposition of meanings”—simultaneously analyzing the real and the imagined to form complex associative networks.

Viewing this evolutionary sequence from Silicon Valley, it becomes clear that humanity stands on the precipice of the next phase transition. OpenAI CEO Sam Altman asserts that the advancement of artificial intelligence and the approach of the Technological Singularity—the threshold where AI recursively and exponentially self-improves—is not science fiction, but the direct continuation of biological evolution.
The relay of intelligence transmission is gradually shifting from carbon bases (DNA) to silicon architectures (algorithms and microchips). However, the Singularity is not merely an abstract mathematical model in the cloud. It requires a physical foundation: advanced semiconductors and gigawatts of energy to power hyperscale data centers.

The War of Evolutionary Transition: Mass vs. Network Singularity
These theoretical and paleontological concepts have materialized directly on the frontlines in Ukraine. The war against Russian aggression is not just a territorial conflict, but the world’s first war of transition into the Artificial Intelligence era.
On the battlefield, two fundamentally opposite evolutionary strategies have clashed:
