Moon Studios, known for the charming Ori series of games, surprised fans at The Game Awards with a bold leap into new territory. Their latest creation, No Rest for the Wicked, is an action-RPG that marks a sharp transition from the carefree, peaceful world of Ori to a darker, more tense world.
The new iteration of the game promises to be more dark and mature
No Rest for the Wicked is set in the mythical kingdom of 841 against the backdrop of royal unrest and a devastating plague on the island of Sakra. Players find themselves in the midst of this chaos, fighting ferocious beasts and confronting an aggressive kingdom. Unlike the calm adventures of Ori, this game promises a more violent and mature story.
Moon Studios puts its signature touch on the action-RPG genre, offering tactile combat that rewards skill and precision. The gameplay, demonstrated in an exciting trailer, reveals a mixture of horror and fantasy with isometric combat. In addition, the game supports cooperative play, allowing up to four players to join forces online.
Scheduled for early access on PC in early 2024, with a full release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S to follow, No Rest for the Wicked will offer a fresh experience for action RPG fans. Moon Studios co-founder Thomas Mahler expressed his passion for the genre, inspired by the success and maturity gained from the Ori.
As anticipation builds, Moon Studios plans to reveal more details at its digital demo of Wicked Inside on March 1, 2024. This game is a bold new chapter for Moon Studios, combining their gorgeous art with the thrill of role-playing and potentially changing expectations of what the studio has to offer.
