If you’ve suddenly woken up on a Windows computer without Microsoft’s Copilot app installed, you’re not dreaming the last few years of artificial intelligence hype – Microsoft just made a mistake. The latest monthly update of Windows 11, which was released on March 11, “inadvertently removed and unhooked” AI assistant, according to a Microsoft support article spotted by The Verge.
Microsoft is aware that Copilot is missing and is “working to resolve the issue.” For now, if you want to get Copilot back, you can download its app from the Microsoft Store and manually pin it to your taskbar. As with any new feature, after Copilot was added to Windows in 2023, there were people interested in removing it. If you were not satisfied with the removal of the AI from the taskbar, you used to have to make some effort to remove it. Microsoft’s update will save you some time – at least until it’s fixed.
Whether people like it or not, proving that Copilot is useful in different situations is still a priority for Microsoft. In March, the company shared its plans for a “Copilot for Games” that will live in the Xbox app and help players in games. Microsoft has also started offering some of its premium AI features, such as the voice mode “Copilot”, for free. According to The Verge, Microsoft plans to announce even more new Copilot features at the company’s 50th anniversary event in April.
