Microsoft makes changes to the way you sign in to your account

Next month, Microsoft is making some changes to how you sign in to your Microsoft account. Starting in February, you will be automatically signed in to your Microsoft account unless you sign out or use a private browser. This is a change that users need to be aware of, especially those who use a public computer.

Now, if you sign in to your Microsoft account, you will always be asked if you want to stay signed in so that you don’t have to sign in again the next time. Microsoft’s change to automatic sign-in means that you’ll have to use a private browser window on public PCs or make sure you remember to sign out after your session ends, otherwise your account will remain logged in.

If you regularly use public computers with your Outlook or Microsoft account, then it’s definitely time to start getting used to logging out or using a private browsing session (which you should do anyway). If you mistakenly forgot to sign out of your Microsoft account in February, you can always force sign out in all browsers, apps, and other places you use it except for the Xbox console.

The latest changes to the Microsoft account sign-in process come a few months after the company added support for keys for all of its user accounts. You can create a key for your Microsoft account by following this link, and you can choose to use your face, fingerprint, PIN, or security key to use your device to sign in with the key.
