MediaTek is ready to take a step forward in the flagship chip market with the upcoming Dimensity 9400. The leaked information indicates that the chip is aimed at a significant performance improvement over its predecessor, the Dimensity 9300, which could potentially challenge Qualcomm’s position in the high-end segment. The chipset is expected to be launched in the fourth quarter of this year.
Dimensity 9400 will be equipped with the Immortalis G9xx series GPU
A well-known Digital Chat Station informant has shared intriguing details about the chipset. He reports that the Dimensity 9400 has achieved a single-core Geekbench score of 6,2700, which is 19.3% higher than the Dimensity 9300. In addition, its multi-core score reaches 9800 points, which means an improvement of 24.7%. The Immortalis G9xx series GPU is expected to deliver a frame rate of 110 frames per second in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins test at 1440p, which is 11.1% better than the previous generation (99 frames per second).
Leaks suggest that MediaTek will continue to rely on ARM’s CPU and GPU architecture this year. The Dimensity 9400 will benefit from TSMC’s advanced 3nm process, which promises a 32% increase in power efficiency. The processor configuration is expected to include one Cortex-X5 core, three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 performance cores, a step up from the Dimensity 9300 configuration, which was built on a 4nm process.
The chipset is also expected to support advanced memory and AI technologies. It will support LPDDR5T RAM, which is crucial for expanding the AI capabilities of the device, potentially outperforming the Dimensity 9300’s large language model with 33 billion parameters.
Despite these achievements, MediaTek’s new chip still faces stiff competition, especially from the upcoming Snapdragon 8 Gen 4. Initial comparisons in Geekbench show that while the Dimensity 9400 shows significant improvements, it may not completely surpass the performance of its competitors.
Concerns have also been raised about the power consumption and performance of the Cortex-X5 core at different clock speeds. It is expected that MediaTek will address these concerns to find the perfect balance between power and efficiency, ensuring that the Dimensity 9400 reaches its full potential.
