Artificial intelligence lab Liquid AI has announced the launch of its new LFM3 model family. Revealed on October 27th, these models are built upon a novel three-mixture-of-experts (MoE) architecture and have been pre-trained on an extensive 22 trillion tokens. Liquid AI emphasizes that this new architecture offers enhanced performance while maintaining high efficiency.

Introducing the LFM3 Family

The initial rollout of LFM3 includes several specialized models: LFM-1.7B for text processing, LFM3-VL-2B for vision tasks, d1-2B focused on decision-making, LFM3-Audio for sound analysis, LFM3-Omni-2B as an all-encompassing generalist model, and d1-Omni-2B, another all-rounder with an emphasis on decision-making capabilities. All these initial models are based on the foundational LFM3-1.7B-Base.

Key Advancements in LFM-1.7B

Liquid AI highlighted specific improvements in the LFM-1.7B model. It boasts an impressive 256K context window, allowing it to process and understand much larger amounts of information in a single pass. Remarkably, this advancement has been achieved while reducing the number of parameters used by 35% compared to its predecessor, LFM2.5-2.6B. This reduction in parameters, coupled with superior performance, underscores Liquid AI’s commitment to developing more efficient and powerful AI models.

Future Implications

The development of the LFM3 family signifies a significant step forward in AI research and development. The focus on a three-mixture-of-experts architecture suggests a move towards more adaptable and specialized AI systems that can handle diverse tasks with greater accuracy and efficiency. The increased context window and reduced parameter usage in models like LFM-1.7B point towards a future where AI can tackle more complex problems and integrate more seamlessly into various applications, from data analysis to creative content generation.

Liquid AI’s continuous innovation in model architecture and training methodologies positions them as a notable player in the competitive AI landscape. The LFM3 family is expected to open up new possibilities for researchers and developers looking for cutting-edge AI solutions.
