Baidu’s Intelligent Cloud Group (ACG) is undergoing a significant organizational restructuring aimed at optimizing business development. Key business segments previously under the ACG Intelligent Application Business Unit are being reassigned to other departments based on their specific attributes. These segments will now fall under the Infrastructure Business Unit, the Intelligent Entity Business Unit, and the Service Delivery and Quality Engineering Center.
Key Departmental Shifts
The Service Delivery and Quality Engineering Center, in particular, has been renamed the Industry Application and Technical Services Center. Its leadership remains unchanged, and the department continues to report to Shen Dou, Executive Vice President of Baidu Group and President of Baidu Smart Cloud.
In another notable move, Baidu Vice President Ruan Yu will be rotating into the role of Organizational Head for Xiaodu Technology, also reporting to Shen Dou. This indicates a strategic reshuffling of leadership within Baidu’s AI and cloud divisions.
Previous Organizational Adjustments
This latest adjustment follows a previous round of product and research organization changes within Baidu Smart Cloud that occurred in August. At that time, the former Platform Product Business Unit was renamed the Intelligent Entity Business Unit. Its MaaS business, Qianfan brand, and related product systems were integrated into the Infrastructure Business Unit.
Additionally, the Data Platform Department was rebranded as the Data Intelligence Department and moved under the newly formed Intelligent Application Business Unit, which was itself a rebranding of the original Application Product Business Unit.
Leadership and Reporting Lines
Shen Dou continues to be a central figure in these organizational changes, serving as the reporting line for multiple department heads involved in the current restructuring.
Ruan Yu, the newly appointed organizational head for Xiaodu Technology, brings a wealth of experience to her new role. She joined Baidu in 2013 and has held significant positions such as General Manager of Baidu Baike, Baijiahao, Baidu Knowledge vertical, and Baidu Netdisk. Since August 2024, she has been the General Manager of the Application Product Business Unit. During her tenure at Baidu Baike, she was instrumental in launching the short-video version of Baike, known as “Miaodong Baike.”
In the August 2024 organizational adjustments, Baidu Smart Cloud’s three business units were led by Hou Zhenyu, Yin Dawei, and Ruan Yu, respectively, all reporting directly to Shen Dou:
- Hou Zhenyu managed the Infrastructure Business Unit, overseeing AI Infra and Agent Infra.
- Yin Dawei led the Intelligent Entity Business Unit, focusing on products like Baidu Dazi, Miaoda, and Faimou.
- Ruan Yu was in charge of the Intelligent Application Business Unit, managing Baidu Yijian, Hogee, Shengsun, and industry applications in sectors such as transportation and finance.
Performance Insights
Recent business data disclosed by Baidu highlights the performance of its cloud services. In the second quarter of 2024, AI cloud infrastructure revenue reached 7.3 billion yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 50%. Notably, GPU cloud revenue experienced a substantial surge of 283% during the same period. In parallel, AI application revenue stood at 2.5 billion yuan, with a year-on-year growth of 3%.
These organizational adjustments and performance figures underscore Baidu’s ongoing commitment to refining its cloud strategy and strengthening its position in the competitive AI and cloud market.
