There have been leaks and rumors that the Galaxy S24 series has satellite connectivity for some time now. It looks like we now have a clearer picture. A recent leak discovered by SamMobile confirms that this feature will indeed be present in future flagship phones.
Galaxy S24 leak confirms satellite connectivity
The leak includes a screenshot, presumably from a Galaxy S24 model, showing a feature called “Emergency Messages via Satellite” alongside its purpose. According to Samsung, “if you call emergency services while out of range or not connected to a mobile network, we will connect you via the satellite network so you can send an emergency message.”
Once connected, you can send text messages with your exact GPS location. This is exactly how satellite communication works in other phones, such as the iPhone. This feature is expected to be available across the Galaxy S24 lineup, regardless of the processor (Exynos or Snapdragon) that each model is powered by.
Earlier this year, Samsung also introduced 5G modem technology, which allows direct communication between phones and satellites. This means that calls, texts, and data can be transmitted even in the absence of cell towers.
While Samsung may introduce satellite connectivity to the S24, it may not be available everywhere at first. As with the iPhone, it may be limited to certain countries at first, with plans to expand later. Currently, the iPhone satellite feature is only available in 17 countries.
Aside from the satellite talk, the leaks about the Galaxy S24 series also hint at the advancement of artificial intelligence. The leak suggests that the top-of-the-line S24 Ultra may be marketed as a “generative artificial intelligence phone,” and Samsung has even registered trademarks for “Artificial Intelligence Phone” and “Artificial Intelligence Smartphone.”
Samsung is expected to officially unveil the Galaxy S24 lineup on January 17 next year. We will keep you updated on all the details here.
