Apple’s recently unveiled foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, will not support WeChat’s tablet mode login, preventing users from logging into the same WeChat account on two devices simultaneously. This limitation was shared by Tim from the channel “Visual Hurricane” and confirmed by IT Home.

iPhone Duo: Key Features and Limitations

The iPhone Duo, priced at 15,999 yuan and available for pre-order on October 16th, with sales commencing October 23rd, boasts a 7.6-inch inner display with an under-display camera and a 5.4-inch outer display. Both screens feature a 120Hz ProMotion refresh rate. The device is powered by the A20 Pro processor and includes a large VC cooling system.

However, beyond the WeChat limitation, the iPhone Duo also faces other functional restrictions. It does not support dual app instances, meaning users cannot run two instances of the same app at once. Furthermore, users cannot watch two videos simultaneously (only one video playback is supported within an app), nor can they record simultaneously on both the inner and outer screens. The ability to set different wallpapers for the inner and outer screens is also unavailable at launch.

The device comes in Starlight White and Night Sky colors. It supports Apple Pencil, which will be available later this year. Globally, the iPhone Duo utilizes eSIM technology and is equipped with a C2 baseband chip. Apple claims that a full charge provides up to 24 hours of battery life, and a mere 5-minute charge allows for 5 hours of video playback on the outer screen.

Pricing and Availability

The iPhone Duo starts at 15,999 yuan. In China, pre-orders begin on October 16th at 8 PM, with the official release on October 23rd.

The limitations surrounding WeChat functionality and other dual-app features might be a point of concern for potential buyers, especially given the device’s premium pricing. It remains to be seen if Apple will address these through future software updates, particularly concerning the popular messaging application.
