Previously, there were rumors that Huawei’s Nova series folding phone might be released in July. However, a new leak claims that the phone might be released in early August.
The news came from a source on Weibo (a Chinese microblogging site) “Dingjiao Digital”. The Nova series folding phone will be relatively cheaper than the Huawei Pocket 2, which was introduced in February this year. The Nova series folding phone may cost around 4,000-5,000 yuan (~$550-$688), which will attract many new users to the foldable device space. However, the source claims that the phone will be equipped with the same processor as the recently released Pura 70 Satellite Messaging Edition.
For those who don’t know, the Huawei Pura 70 Satellite Messaging Edition is powered by the Kirin 9010E chipset. It has one Taishan core clocked at 2.19 GHz, two Taishan cores clocked at 2.18 GHz, three Cortex-A510 cores clocked at 1.55 GHz, and a Maleoon 910 GPU clocked at 750 MHz. Compared to the Kirin 9010, the processor runs at 111 MHz at a lower clock speed, while the other cores run at almost the same frequencies.
The Nova series folding phone will reportedly have a different exterior design compared to the Huawei Pocket 2. As you can see in the image above, the Huawei Pocket 2 comes with a small round external display. The new flip phone is expected to have a larger external display that will be more functional than the Pocket 2.
To give you an idea of what to expect, the Huawei Pocket 2 features a 6.94-inch LTPO OLED display with a resolution of 1136 x 2690 pixels (~420 ppi) and a peak brightness of 2200 nits. The external round display also features a 1.15-inch LTPO OLED panel with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. On the back of the phone is a proprietary quad XMAGE camera with a resolution of 50 megapixels + 8 megapixels + 12 megapixels + 2 megapixels. The main 50-megapixel camera and the 8-megapixel 3x telephoto camera have OIS support. The 2MP hyperspectral camera reportedly uses artificial intelligence. The front panel has a 10.7-centimeter selfie camera with perforations. Pocket 2 is powered by the Kirin 9000S chipset.
