On November 6, 2024, Huawei Ukraine continued its cooperation with the National Technical University of Ukraine “Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” (KPI) by signing a memorandum on the transfer of innovative renewable energy solutions for the Digital Power laboratory. Earlier, in August of the same year, the company donated laboratory equipment to Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute: Digital Power and Huawei Microwave.

“We are pleased to be here again, visiting our long-standing and reliable partner, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute. Together we have already opened a Digital Power laboratory, which, thanks to Huawei equipment, has enabled students to conduct better laboratory work and deepen their knowledge,” says Tony Cao, CEO of Huawei Ukraine.

“Our fruitful cooperation with Huawei Ukraine, which began back in 2016, is a great example of how a mutually beneficial partnership can be an impetus for innovation, development, and implementation of ambitious projects. Our interaction is also an example of true cooperation between education and business,” says Anatoliy Melnychenko, Rector of NTUU “KPI”.

He believes that joint efforts will bring achievements and wider opportunities for students in particular and the educational community in general, as well as inspire other important projects.

The company also donated additional laboratory equipment and an interactive panel for the university’s needs. Thus, according to Tony Cao, Huawei aims to provide students and staff with access to the latest technologies that will help them in their research, practical training, and daily work.

The company has donated LUNA2000-5KW-C0 and LUNA2000-5-E0 smart string energy storage system modules and SCharger-22KT-S0 single-phase charger to the laboratory. They will provide control and monitoring for the safe and efficient operation of the systems, as well as allow charging devices using solar energy. In addition, the company donated an IdeaHub Pro panel to the university to organize presentations and video conferences.

KPI students constantly use the latest Huawei renewable energy technologies, such as solar energy optimizers, inverters, and batteries, as part of the Digital Power laboratory that opened in winter at the Institute of Energy Saving and Energy Management. These devices have been used to create systems that are used for laboratory work for bachelor’s degrees and have already been used to complete one master’s thesis.

Also, during this summer’s power outages, Huawei equipment helped to set up five points of guaranteed power supply on the university’s territory. Thus, Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute was able to ensure an uninterrupted workflow – the work of admissions offices, the dean’s office, and certain key departments.

Fruitful cooperation

The cooperation between the university and Huawei Ukraine began in 2016, covering joint projects and initiatives to deepen KPI’s scientific activities.

For eight years in a row, the company has been providing the latest equipment for students, who also take an active part in Huawei’s educational activities: Huawei ICT Academy, dual education programs, and Seeds for the Future.

And the Digital Power laboratory opens up new prospects for them to explore the possibilities of renewable energy and gain practical experience in modern digital energy solutions.
