Recent claims that the hacking group CYBERLEEK threatened to release a full build of Grand Theft Auto 6 (GTA 6) have been debunked as false. An initial report by Insider Gaming, which detailed these alleged threats made to Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive, has since been retracted.
False Accusations Surface and Disappear
The controversy began with a report suggesting that CYBERLEEK demanded that Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive cease legal pursuits against the group. In exchange, the group purportedly threatened to leak the complete version of the highly anticipated GTA 6. However, the evidence presented for this claim, including images and statements, was later discovered to be fabricated.
It appears that an individual, possibly one of many imitating CYBERLEEK’s activities, created and disseminated these false claims online for unknown reasons. The original article based on this misinformation has been removed.
Misinformation Spreads Through Content Creators
Further complicating the situation, a video creator known as MoistCr1TiKaL uploaded content extensively discussing the Insider Gaming report. The video even used screenshots from the article as its thumbnail, inadvertently amplifying the false narrative. While the video’s analysis might seem logical, its foundation was built on fictitious information, contributing to the widespread circulation of the hoax.
No Evidence of GTA 6 Build Possession
At present, there is no credible evidence to support the assertion that CYBERLEEK, or any other entity, possesses a complete build of GTA 6. The gaming community remains on alert for genuine developments regarding the game, while simultaneously navigating the challenges of misinformation in the digital age. Developers and publishers often face such threats and hoaxes, particularly with highly anticipated titles like GTA 6, making verification of information crucial.
