Google will allow restaurants to highlight offers in search

Google is preparing to add a new section to the search profiles of restaurants and bars. The new section will allow restaurant and bar owners to include timely offers or events in search results that they can control, either manually or by linking to a social media profile, according to a company announcement seen by Search Engine Land.

The promotions will appear under the “This Week” label in the block of information you get for most local businesses in Google searches. Google assumes that companies will use it for things like daily specials or to promote upcoming live music events. According to the company, the service will initially be launched in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand for “select food and beverage businesses,” although it is not yet known when this will happen.

Bars and restaurants can update this information using the Google Posts service, which Google launched nearly a decade ago for brands and celebrities and then extended to local businesses, allowing them to post content directly to the carousel on their search profiles. In addition, businesses can link their Instagram, Facebook, or X accounts for automatic cross-posting.
