Google test turns search results into a podcast

Google is launching a test that puts artificial intelligence audio reviews on the first page of search results on mobile devices. The experiment, which can be activated in Labs, will allow you to generate a podcast-style discussion for specific queries.

If you search for something like “How do noise-canceling headphones work?”, Google will show you a button under the “People also ask” module that says “Generate an audio review”. Once you click the button, it will take up to 40 seconds to generate an audio review, according to Google.

The finished audio review will appear in a small player embedded in the search results, where you can play, pause, mute, and adjust the clip’s playback speed. Similar to the audio reviews on NotebookLM and Gemini, this one also features two AI-generated “hosts” who enthusiastically discuss the topic you want to learn more about. You’ll also find links to some of the sources used in the audio review directly below the playbar in Search.

Currently, Audio Reviews in Search are only available in English in the United States. Since the tool’s launch last year, Google has begun to deploy Audio Reviews in more places, allowing users to create audio discussions based on notes, Gemini in-depth research, Google Docs files, and more.
