Google is giving its Google Voice app some much-needed love after leaving it virtually untouched for a long time. The company has added an updated call interface with key call control buttons lined up in a row, as well as the ability to start a three-way conference call.
In today’s Workspace update, Google says the call interface now has a prominent and easily accessible layout that looks more like Google Meet. It includes a “Transfer” button to the left of the “Hold” button and an “Add” button on the right, which changes to “Merge” when you have a second call waiting to be spoken to.
You can start a three-way call by pressing the “Add” button during the current call and selecting the other party from your contact list. After that, Voice will start the call with the other person and allow you to merge the calls with one touch. The interface also provides a notification in the form of a notification on top to let you know when someone is on hold, as well as a button to switch between calls.
This three-way calling update is currently undergoing an extended rollout that could last up to 15 days or longer, and is only available to Google Workspace users who have a Voice Starter, Voice Standard, or Voice Premier subscription, as well as SIP Link Standard and SIP Link Premier users. Google says that the new look will be available to all Google Voice users, but does not specify whether this applies to iOS (Google’s examples show only the Android interface).
