Google discontinues Keep add-on on Apple Watch

Google’s graveyard has been replenished with another victim: the company has killed the Apple Watch version of its Keep app. Although the note-taking app is still available for iPhone and iPad, Google Keep App Store update 2.2025.26200 released on Monday removed watchOS support, bringing the total number of Google apps for Apple Watch down to three.

This overshadows some hope that Google would expand its watchOS app offering after quietly releasing a new native Google Calendar app for the Apple Watch yesterday, having previously removed several Google apps from the platform in 2017. The Google Keep app was introduced to watchOS in 2019, but has been largely neglected since then and hasn’t received any significant updates. Now, it’s down to Google Calendar, Maps, and YouTube Music, and the latter two apps are also in need of modernization.

Despite being outdated, the Keep feature still worked on the Apple Watch, providing users with a convenient way to quickly create lists or jot down information on the go. There doesn’t appear to be a notable third-party alternative in watchOS that could replace this feature. The removal of the app confirms several posts made by Keep users on Reddit last month, who stated that Google informed them that “the watch app will soon be deprecated.” We reached out to Google to find out why the app was removed.

Keep is still available for smartwatches running on Google’s own Wear OS platform. However, this is unlikely to comfort Apple Watch users who have lost access to it; they will have to wait until Apple releases a native version of the Notes app in watchOS 26 this fall.
