Jarvis is real. A new prototype of artificial intelligence from Google was accidentally released to the public through the Chrome web store. This is not just some AI assistant that can tell you the weather or remind you of a doctor’s appointment. The Information reports that on the store page, the Jarvis prototype is described as “a helpful companion that browses the web for you” through web browsers to take care of common tasks like grocery shopping, booking airline tickets, and finding research topics.
In other words, Google’s new AI can take over your computer to perform these simple tasks without human intervention. The prototype that appeared in Google’s extension store was not in full working mode.
Google took down the Jarvis store page by mid-afternoon on the eve of a planned December presentation. Jarvis will have some competition from companies such as Anthropic and its AI assistant Claude, which started public beta last month. Anthropic’s AI assistant can perform more than just basic functions via a web browser. Claude can take control of your computer to type, activate buttons, and move the cursor.
