Gemini can now watch videos from Google Drive

The newest features of Google Drive provide Workspace users with more information about the videos they have saved. Gemini, the artificial intelligence feature that summarizes documents and PDFs in Google Drive, now extends to video files, allowing users to get a sense of what’s in a video without having to watch it themselves.

The Gemini feature in Drive offers a familiar chatbot interface that can provide quick summaries describing the footage or extract specific information. For example, users can ask Gemini to list points mentioned in recorded meetings or highlight the most important updates and new products in announcement videos, saving time spent on manual review and notes.

This feature requires video captions to be enabled, and can be accessed using the Google Drive overlay previewer or in a new browser tab. It is available in English for Google Workspace and Google One AI Premium users, as well as for anyone who has previously purchased the Gemini Business or Enterprise add-on, although it may take several weeks to fully roll out.

Google is also abandoning another Workspace feature that showed data on video interaction on Drive. The Drive video player will now show how many times a video has been opened in the Analytics section of the Details pane, giving users an idea of how their clips are performing.
