Galaxy Z Fold 7 will receive a significant camera update

Samsung‘s 7th generation foldable tablet is just around the corner – expected to arrive sometime in mid-July – and this year, the book-shaped model looks like it will finally get a significant hardware upgrade. Reportedly, it will be much thinner than its predecessor and possibly have a slightly larger display. But that’s not all – the camera system seems to be undergoing major changes as well.

An earlier leaked image of the prototype showed an offset flash, hinting at a larger main sensor. This confirms the rumors of a 200-megapixel primary camera. However, one detail we didn’t cover in our previous report is the protrusion of the camera module itself. A recently released render of a Thinborne case for the Z Fold7 gives the first visual hint of this.

While the render doesn’t mention the exact dimensions, the protrusion looks reasonable given the rumored specs. The Galaxy S25 Ultra, which also uses a 200-megapixel 1/1.3-inch ISOCELL HP2 sensor, is 8.2 mm thick. In comparison, the Z Fold7 is only 4.54mm thick when unfolded, making it Samsung’s thinnest foldable smartphone yet. If Samsung reuses the HP2 sensor and a similar lens setup, the Z Fold7’s protrusion is likely to exceed that of the S25 Ultra by more than 3mm, according to the rendering.

And let’s not forget what we saw with the Galaxy S25 Edge. This “razor-thin” phone (5.8mm) is still thicker than the Z Fold7 (when unfolded), suggesting that the protrusion on a folded phone could be even more pronounced – assuming Samsung’s ALOP lens technology doesn’t make the leap from patents and blog posts to actual production hardware.
