Today, fraudsters can use artificial intelligence to fake your photos, videos, and even your voice. This is reported by the State Special Communications Service.
How the fraudulent scheme works
In this case, fraudsters hack into messenger accounts and ask to borrow money from friends of the account owner.
But to be more convincing, fraudsters send voice messages by cloning a person’s voice with artificial intelligence, using recordings that the person has previously sent in chats.
This makes them more convincing, and potential victims may actually believe they are helping their friend.
How to protect yourself from scams
- Call your friend back or ask them something that only the two of you can know, it can be a simple question, such as “how did we meet?”
- To protect your page from hacking, set up two-factor authentication.
