After the presentation of the iPhone 16, Apple is turning its attention to the Mac line, which is rumored to be launched in October. While the September event focused on the company’s growing ecosystem and advances in artificial intelligence through Apple Intelligence, there were no Mac or iPad announcements.
Industry insider Mark Gurman suggests that the October event will focus on the introduction of the M4 processor-based Mac, which promises a leap in performance over the current M3 generation. The lineup is expected to include:
- J604 – a new budget 14-inch MacBook Pro with M4 chip.
- J614 and J616 are new high-end 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pros, each with two professional-grade M4 chip options.
- J623 is a new iMac with the M4 chip.
- J773 is an updated, smaller Mac mini with M4 and M4 Pro chips.
“I’ve been told that most of these computers are already shipping from the factories (with the exception of some high-end MacBook Pro and Mac mini with M4 Pro chip) and are ready to launch right now,” Gurman said.
The expert also suggests that Apple is likely waiting until all new Macs are ready to ship at the same time. The M4 MacBook Air models (J713 and J715) are expected in the first quarter of 2025, and the new Mac Studio (J575) should be available by the middle of the year. The Mac Pro (J704) will be released by the end of 2025.
The absence of the M4 MacBook Air in the near future may disappoint some, as its fanless design remains a popular choice among users.
Apple’s switch to its own silicon chips has clearly improved its computer offerings. Once derided for their low specs at premium prices, Apple computers have become formidable competitors in the market. The focus on artificial intelligence in its new desktop computers demonstrates Apple’ s commitment to developing in this area.
