Envision Group has announced a significant technological milestone with the commercial operation of its integrated 800V Solid-State Transformer (SST) power system at the Star River facility in Wulanchabu. This marks the global debut of such a system deployed in large-scale, artificial intelligence (AI) powered data centers.

Innovative Power System for AI Data Centers

The advanced power system comprises a TianShu controller, a solid-state transformer, a DC energy storage unit, and a DC/DC conversion module. Its implementation is a crucial step in providing stable and efficient power to modern data centers, which are major energy consumers, particularly for AI-related workloads.

The Star River base in Wulanchabu, commissioned in August of this year, is slated to have a total capacity of 3 GW. A key feature of this facility is that its direct connection to green energy sources will exceed 80%, underscoring Envision’s commitment to environmentally friendly and highly efficient energy solutions.

Expert Insights

According to Huang Zhiyun, Senior Vice President at Envision Energy, AI data centers necessitate cutting-edge power systems capable of effectively managing and integrating renewable energy sources, energy storage, grid control mechanisms, and computing power.

“This commercial operation signifies the completion of Envision’s full-cycle intelligent AIDC energy system, from green energy generation to computational load,” Huang Zhiyun stated.

The launch of the world’s first 800V SST system in commercial operation for AI data centers highlights Envision Group’s technological leadership. This solution not only optimizes energy consumption but also promotes sustainable industry development by integrating robust computing resources with renewable energy.

The 800V SST high-voltage DC system represents a substantial advancement over traditional power systems. It offers enhanced energy transmission efficiency, reduced losses, and more flexible power flow management, which is critical for modern, round-the-clock data center operations.

The adoption of a solid-state transformer (SST) in place of conventional magnetic transformers opens up new avenues for improving system reliability and flexibility. SSTs allow for precise control of voltage and current, a vital capability for sensitive data center equipment.

The deployment of such innovative solutions in Wulanchabu, a region known for its large-scale energy projects, demonstrates Envision’s strategic vision for creating intelligent energy ecosystems capable of meeting the escalating demands of the digital economy.
