In a significant push to foster innovation and sustainable development, China has released over 2,800 national standards this year, with more than half of them — over 1,400 — dedicated to emerging industries. This strategic standardization effort is proving instrumental in supporting the rapid growth of new quality productive forces.
Pioneering Standards Across Key Sectors
The advanced information technology and new materials sectors have each seen the introduction of over 300 new national standards. These include groundbreaking standards like the ‘Information Technology Brain-Computer Interface Multi-modal Data Format’ and ‘Artificial Intelligence Terminal Intelligence Grading’, which are setting benchmarks for future development in the IT industry. In new materials, standards such as ‘Marine High-Strength Crack-Resisting Steel Plate’ and ‘Polyacrylonitrile-based Carbon Fiber’ are paving the way for industrialization.
Strengthening High-End Manufacturing and Green Initiatives
The high-end equipment manufacturing sector has also benefited, with over 200 new national standards being released. Standards like the ‘General Technical Specifications for Magnetic Direct Drive Conveying Systems’ and ‘Safety Requirements for Intelligent Connected Vehicle Combination Driving Assistance Systems’ are solidifying the foundational capabilities for advanced manufacturing.
Furthermore, significant progress has been made in the new energy and energy conservation/environmental protection sectors, with over 100 new national standards each. The recently implemented ‘Electric Vehicle Safety Requirements’ and ‘Safety Requirements for Power Batteries for Electric Vehicles’, lauded as the strictest yet, directly address public concerns regarding the safety of new energy vehicles. In environmental protection, standards such as the ‘Energy Consumption Limit per Unit Product for Formaldehyde’ and a series of water consumption quotas for the Yellow River Basin are contributing to cleaner air and water resources.
Supporting Aerospace and the Low-Altitude Economy
A batch of critical standards has also been issued for burgeoning fields like aerospace and the low-altitude economy. These include the ‘Requirements for Flat Plate Stacking Satellite-Rocket Mechanical Interface’ and the ‘Flight Management and Service Information Interaction Specification for Unmanned Aircraft’, effectively meeting the urgent demands of these rapidly developing new industries.
Impact on Future Development
This August alone saw the implementation of 46 mandatory national standards and 442 recommended national standards. These standards, covering crucial areas such as energy consumption limits for products, water quotas for the Yellow River basin, household solar water heating systems, brain-computer interfaces, digital twins, Beidou applications, photovoltaic power generation systems, green product evaluation, and tourism services, are set to provide essential support for guiding and regulating emerging and future industries. They will also play a vital role in promoting environmental protection, green development, enhancing quality of life, and driving high-quality economic growth.
