Asus is scheduled to announce the ROG Phone 8 series on January 8 during the CES (Consumer Electronics Show) 2024. Later, on January 16, ROG gaming phones for the Chinese market will be announced. Today, the brand has confirmed the IP rating of the ROG Phone 8 series.
The ROG Phone 8 series will be equipped with an IP68-rated case
As you can see from the teaser above, Asus has officially confirmed that the ROG Phone 8 series will come with an IP68-rated body. This means that the ROG Phone 8 series will have a water and dust resistant design, providing users with increased durability and protection from adverse weather conditions. The IP68 rating ensures that the case can withstand submersion in water to a certain depth and is sealed to prevent dust particles from entering, offering users a more durable and reliable gaming smartphone. This is a marked improvement over the IP54 rating of the ROG Phone 7 and IPX4 rating of the ROG Phone 6 series.
Previous teasers about the ROG Phone 8 series have shown that it will have a new display design. Instead of the thick bezels seen on previous models, the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro will feature a perforated display surrounded by thin bezels. The brand also confirmed that the ROG Phone 8 series will support gimbal stabilization for recording stabilized videos.
In the Chinese market, the ROG Phone 8 series will compete with the Red Magic 9 Pro series. Like Nubia gaming phones, the ROG Phone 8 and 8 Pro will be equipped with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
It seems that the ROG Phone 8 series will not strictly follow the traditional gaming phone model of its predecessors. Instead, it will be performance-oriented with an added emphasis on features such as an improved camera.
